Locarno Carte Blanche and Open Doors

Today featured the last day of the industry screenings and coproduction meetings at the Locarno Film Festival, where we signed on the beautiful EL TIEMPO NUBLADO by Arami Ullon and produced by our friend and one of Switzerland’s best distributor-producers Pascal Traeschlin at Cineworx. This is our second year at Locarno, and has very easily become the most important mid-summer industry gathering, due to its firm guest list of mid-level (but none the less heavy weight) distributors, and a very strong producer contingency. The Carte Blanche this year focused on Brazilian Cinema, a mix of features and docs and supported by Cinema do Brasil, whilst the Open Doors cornered the sub-saharan filmmaking community – which were all in all fantastic – I hope we get to announce some collaborations soon.

The festival might have been spelled by some less than desirable weather, but our Producers at Cobra Film AG (Rosie, Switzerland), Susann and Valerie, and I, did manage to escape for a Piazza Grande dinner and movie! Until next year…
