Pine Ridge was last night’s recipient of the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Documentary at the Goterborg Film Festival! Ana, who flew in from a sold out screening in Helsinki at Doc Point only hours earlier, receiving the prize on her birthday!
The Jury mention stated
”A captivating look at the Pine Ridge Indian reservation in South Dakota. Through a strings of scenes, we meet the young inhabitants of this poor and exposed area, which has the highest suicide rate among young people in the entire US.
As a unanimous jury, we have the honor of giving the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Documentary to a director who has the courage to trust both the complex reality she has faced and the audience’s strength to receive this world without simplification and illustration. The director masterfully uses the unique possibilities of documentary film to forge an authentic presence we do not normally encounter.
The jury consists of Tine Fischer, artistic director at CPH:DOX, Denmark, Thomas A Østbye, director and producer, Denmark, and Lena Runge, editor, Sweden.”
