Riviera Maya FF

In April we attended Riviera Maya Film Festival in Playa del Carmen, Mx for the duration of RivieraLAB. This young festival (4th edition this year) has now a steady attendance both local and international, with a smart programming in a lovely movie-lovers atmosphere – not to mention the agreeable location. Both the Work in Progress and the Co-production Forum selections were sharp with well advanced projects screened. The simple yet touching LAB award ceremony saw the juries reward Maquinaria Panamericana by Joaquín del Paso (Mexico) and El Rastreador de Estatuas (Maricarmen Merino, Mexico) for WIP while projects Tiempo vertical (Lois Patino, Spain) and Nona (Camila José Donoso, Chile) were distinguished at the co-pro forum. Decadent beach parties were thrown, delicious Mexican food was had, and, well, in the wise words of locals, “Cuando todo va mal, Mezcal, cuando todo va bien, Mezcal tambien!”
